It can only be the first or the last.

You can't give a yellow card and a penalty in that situation.

I think you can. Serbia- Ghana match is a perfect example. Kuzmanovic witha totally deliberate handball = Yellow Card & Penalty.

Wasn't denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity though, whereas Kewell stopped a certain goal, which is a red card offence.

Actually both those Serbian handballs were extremely ridiculous. Here's hoping for a 3rd this week!

The ball hit Kewell's arm and if it never it would have been a goal so therefore it is a penalty and a straight red card.

It was the correct decision.

Its definitely a penalty, and since it was heading for goal, the referee gave the red card, its a combo package thingy in this situation the referee usually gives a penalty+card for hand ball !!!!

Its a definite penalty kick. I'm still undecided as to which card Kewell deserved but I'd lean towards the red as well.

If one is to follow thw rules, it must be a red card and a penalty.

I think it is time to discuss (and change) the rules of football regarding red cards and penalties. A sitiuation such as this, or any other case that is not something extremely violent but gives a red card and a paenalty, need to be changed to giving penalty and a yellow (instead of a red). The simple reason is that one mistake, or one deliberate handball, can end up with the game completely changed and lost, and a whole tournament slipping away from a team. That is not releveant punishment for stopping an attack, with a sliding tackle or with a hand...
