Zarate: I Sign For Lazio On Saturday

Argentine striker, Mauro Zarate has revealed that he will sign for Lazio on Saturday.

The player earlier admitted that he would be announcing details of the switch following his loan spell with Birmingham City from Quatari side Al-Sadd.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito claimed the player is better than Lionel Messi. Hopefully, he is for Lotito’s sake, or the outspoken chief will no doubt be eating humble pie if the player doesn’t live up to expectations.

“I will be in Rome on Saturday to sign my contract and to undergo a medical,” Zarate told Radio 6.

“A lot of Argentines have worn the Lazio shirt in the past and I am delighted to arrive in Rome.

“I know that the fans here are waiting for me and I am hoping to have a good season. I can’t wait to start playing as I want to show my capabilities.”

The 21-year-old striker moved to Al-Sadd last year after the club bought him from Velez Sarsfield. Lazio missed out on the UEFA Cup last season after a less than perfect campaign.

No doubt Lotito will be hoping his new hit-man can fire his side back to the glory days

The guy looks great, but I find it weird that he joined the Qatari league instead of a bigger team before... I mean, how come we never heard any hype about him before?

there was hype, he is in the junior Argentina squad

the Qatari league has a lot of money, more than many European leagues so that would be why he went there

Spot on. I think Figo was offered a bucket load of money to go to the club Zarate plays for only a couple years back… He decided to carry on at Inter though.

Few words I quoted from Birmingham City fans forum:

- "Well, best of luck to the kid, bags of potential, and flair, agility, pace, goal scorer, vision, wow, he really has got everthing. World cup 2010 top scorer for me."

- "Just wonder why none of the Premier top boys saw the diamond... except for our Arry..."

- Wenger wanted him but not at that price..... It was a bit high if were honest but he could be a great one....

- "I said the same thing as the Lazio chief after he made his debut for us against Sunderland. Zarate will be an outstanding talent for many years to come and will be playing for Barcelona in a few years time and hailed as the new Maradona like every good Argie is. Wenger will regret not buying him when he had the chance."

Read the whole conversation here: http://forums.icbirmingham.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=148870 there are funny stuffs though...they first thought that we're going to CL next season tongue

Till now i got no information regarding Zarate arrival in Fiumicino airport.

To El Maestro and to all his friends in the Lazio blog: Please refer to this topic for any info or future appointment in order to satisfy everyone interest -

At the moment i am here listening to our major radio show by Guido de Angelis about SS Lazio in rome and the spirit for Zarate arrival seem as pure adrenaline.

Zarate Can't Wait To Start Lazio Career

Argentine ace Mauro Zarate has expressed his excitement at the soon to be completed switch to Italian capital club SS Lazio.

The Biancoceleste have a history of fostering Argentine talent -Juan Sebastian Veron, Diego Simeone, Hernan Crespo just to count a few- so Zarate is keane to tread the same path of so many of his idols before him.

"I know a lot about Italian football because I always watch it on TV and most of all because I have spoken with Hernan Crespo and Lucas Castroman," the prodigiously talented 21-year-old told Radio La Red.

"They have both played at Lazio, so they have told me many things about the team.

"I am happy with this chance. I expect everything to get sorted out correctly.

"I don't have any problems in playing in any position as a striker," he added. "I can do it on the wing or in the middle. I am used to changing my position."

Al-Sadd are insisting on a high fee for their star turn, and with Lazio’s delicate finances, a complex agreement has been reportedly set in place.

Zarate, who briefly set the Premiership alight during a recent six-month loan spell a Birmingham, would arrive at the club initially on loan for a fee of £2.4 million, with a three-year buy-out clause. Lazio would pay a further £4.4 million by June 2009 and another £6.7 in 2010. The subtotal of the deal would be in the region of £13 million

PostSubject: Zarate from arabia to Lazio   Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:37 pm

Hello everybody i am here and around!!!!
this is an article which Paolo asked me to write about arab opinion about Zarate and here we go:

Zarate from Arabia to Lazio:

Zarate completed his surprising move to Qatari club al-Sadd from Velez in Argentina for a huge amount of 20 million USD last summer.

The move was undoubtly surprising not to al-Sadd's fans only but to all the followers of the football transfer market due to many reasons. First, the huge amount of the transfer for the youngster which was a record number in Arabia. Second and more important the direction of the move! It was the first transfer for a young Argentina top league player right after being tops corer in the league to the Arabian area rather than the usual direction towards the European continent. But all of this can be explained by the fact that the Qatari management were thinking of the player as an investment, which is true as they gave the player's card to Lazio for 18 million Euros.

Al-Sadd's fans were expecting a lot from "Nuclear Zarate" after his performance in U-21 world cup and the Argentina league. The U-21 world cup winner needed sometime to show his quality, something which the trophy-hungry fans were unable to give. So the fans asked the management to send the player back and refund the money as he was unable to give 1/4th of his world cup performance.

Mauro himself explains this experience to be due to the fact that he was tired from the pervious season, and his arrival to Arabia was late as the group had already started training and he could not mix in with the group, plus the fact that he was unable to get used to the atmosphere and weather there.

So the player moved to England and he showed some of his value over there, which made al-Sadd's fans to change their opinion about the player and describe him as an excellent player who does not fit into the Qatari league due to the same reasons Zarate himself gave, the environment and language.

Lazio Arab fans were really happy with the Argentina player move to Lazio, and they are expecting a lot from the fast, strong and talented attacker up in front to help the capital giants back to their natural place the upper 1/4th of the league table.

Some of the fans are worried that the media will draw too much attention towards the attacker that may make unable to get to the expected level.

We all wish Zarate all the best luck in SS Lazio.

at last, a player to go mad over. Zarate will fly the Lazio flag for us once more. The world will take notice of the player and Lazio once more.

The funny thing is, a lot of europeans like the English, Germans etc do not even know that Lazio were in a major financial crisis. They still think that we are top 4 team in Italy etc,

hehe, well hopefully new season we willl be.
