The play-offs is coming closer. I feel relaxed, I'm sure some of Dzeko-Misimovic-Ibisevic triangle will score. Christina Ronaldo is not going to play so there goes 40% of portugal attacking power. Last night I had a dream - it ended 2-2 in the first leg. Surprised

Bosnia is in a great place right now. Their spirit must be sky high after these qualifications, they have an extraordinary coach in Ciro Blazevic, you never know what to expect from the guy, and electric support from the stands.
It will be hard for them to keep a cool head, but otherwise they are perfectly able to see off Portugal.

I think Bosnia will get by Portugal. Ronaldo is a monumental loss.

Pjanic, Dzeko, Ibisevic, Baramovic, Misimovic & Salihovic. More individual quality if you ask me, although Portugal do have a world class back-line.

Ireland - France

Big game for both sides for obvious reasons. Extra dimensions added to this tie, mainly due to a trading of insults between the two nations but also due to poor political relations between the sides which I can't and won't get into here (but the "spoofs" are out there and have lightened things up somewhat).

We will fancy our chances, in fact, common prediction here appears to be a 3-0 first leg victory to the boys in green (our alcohol tendencies are getting to us at present).

There is foundation for that. No Frey, no Clichy, no Mexesmerda, no Boumsong, no Ribery, no Vieira, no Nasri, no Ben Arfa, no Flamini and no Gomis is providing us with huge levels of confidence. We're pretty much full strength with no injury doubts and should have 80,000 fans on our side.

My prediction? Anything more than 2 goals will surprise me but I have no idea where those goals will go.

Tip: watch Portugal - Bosnia if you're a neutral.

Il state my predictions:

Russia 2-0 Slovenia
Greece 2-2 Ukraine
Ireland 0-0 France
Portugal 2-2 Bosnia and Herzegovina

For me Bosnia will take Portugal over the two legs.

Ireland absolutley have to keep a cleen sheet or win the game.

I'm liking Ireland's chances. Given, Keane and Dunne are in great form ATM - as is the entire team. Trappattoni knows his stuff. And France will suffer with all those players not playing.

Hope to see Ireland qualify along with Bosnia, Slovenia and Ukraine!

No, they're not but to be honest, if it wasn't for "Joker's Road," people could have been easily convinced...

Slovenia scored what could prove to be a monumental away goal in the 88th minute, now the ball is in their park and it will be a hell of a game in Maribor. Go Slovenia!!!

on a side note, the French

Ireland 0-0 France HT

Strong case to say we dominated that half. France had a few half chances but we had the better of the game in attack. Both defenses look shaky so I'm expecting a goal in the second half.

Ireland 0-1 France FT

Disappointing. We let France get back into it and they got a fortunate enough goal before Lloris proceeded to keep them in the game. A missed opportunity.

Interesting Game.

Draw would have been the fair result with France edging it.

Ireland created very little in the way of chance, yet somehow they had 3 amazing goal chances (Slight contradiction). Lawrence had to score, O Shea had a golden chance and McGeady at the death should have scored, maybe rounded Lloris instead.

Ireland did show a lack of ambition though which was very worrying.

Lucky goal for France.

All is far from lost though. Ireland must score first though in Paris, and the longer the game remains goaless, the more anxious the French will become as well as defensive. Trap has to start with McGeady though in Paris. Why leave your best player out? Hopefully Hunt will have an important role too.

From an Irish perspective, anyone in the world is welcome to Trap. Honestly, he is out of touch with football, is overdue retirement and I wouldn't wish him on Lazio. I'm not sure any coach could have got us to this world cup but with most coaches, we would have got this far; we were a class above everyone in the group besides Italy.

Among other jobs, Trap has been managing Milan, Juventus, Inter, Bayern Münich, Fiorentina, Gli Azzurri and Benfica. He is 70 years old and has recenty signed a new contract that will tie him with the Irish NT until 2012. He was reported to earn around 2 million euros a year before the extension and then agreed to lower his salary with a small amount.

So, why should Ireland fire him? And more important, why would he want to finish his career in a serie A-side barely top 10? And why would he want to halve (at best) his salery?

The realistic options to Ballardini are others, like Mihajlovic, Giordano, Reja and Novellino.

About the match: I agree with Caxi about the second half. Maybe the powers ran out after the first 45 minuter, as France found free spaces more often during the second half. To bad, as I really enjoyed the first half and was pretty impressed with the Irish team.

But looking at the quality, France have better players in almost every position (except GK and maybe one central defender) so it was not really a surprise.
