Veron has become the South American footballer of the year for 2008. Well done Juan Seba.

On a sidenote, when we are chasing a bunch of relatively unproven Argentine midfielders, JS, with his experience and ties with the club seems a much better candidate for the Lazio midfield. Just a thought.

Yep was thinking the same thing but it will never happen. He's 33 and plays for the club he supports. Pretty sure he not only supports and captains Estudiantes but he contributes financially towards the club too.

Congratulations to him though, he's still good enough at the top level. The Argentine comp is on par with the top European leagues barring the top clubs.

One problem since Lotito came around has been his reluctancy to sign old lazio players. Veron would have been perfect for our midfield.

Anyways, all the best to Veron.

Not sure I agree with that Cash. We brought back Di Canio and Dabo...I think if they're good enough and available, he will take them into consideration.

Veron is still good enough but as Chris pointed out, he's probably not available.

The tifosi want the return of Veron to Lazio.

According to experts in Argentina, Lazio is the only offer Veron would consider and if Lotito decides to negotiate, it should be possible, money should not be an issue.

Watch this space...

Big credit for Veron about that achievement....

As far as i know , previously Veron has said that he wants to play only for Estudiantes till the end of his career and also he is shareholder there.
So I don't know how credible could be one probable return in Lazio but still let's see....

Those two are the only, while there have been many others that could have been brought back and functioned well in our team. Di Canio was a signing only made to make Lotito popular, and Dabo was brought back since we knew him and he was desperate to get out of City.

As I wrote, Veron would fit our midfield perfectly. Lotito could have landed him before he went back to play in S.A.. Now I guess it will be harder and cost more...

Great achievement for him, if you look at other players of his generation they are already retired or past it. Would love to see Veron in a Lazio shirt, BUT...

We shouldn't be going forward by looking at the past, no matter how great it was. Veron has done well at this age, but he's been playing at home at the end of his career, it's much different from the pressures of Serie A.

Besides it would be nice to remember him the way he played for us 8 years ago. Remember we had Conceicao back and he wasn't too great...

If this worked out beetween Lazio and Veron it would be a small miracle.

just read this on Goal.com:

"Since winning the South American Golden Ball the interest in the ex-Lazio man has multiplied. According to Eugenio Ascari, an Argentinean transfer guru: "Veron wants to stay in Argentina, but should an offer come from Lazio who knows?"

The talented Argentinean, a key figure in Lazio’s 2000 Scudetto triumph, has recently been awarded the South American Golden Ball and has rekindled the fantasies of the Lazio faithful, who in a phone in poll organised by Quelli che hanno portato il Calcio a Roma, expressed their hopes of a dream return for their former idol.

The words of Eugenio Ascari help to fuel these hopes. “Veron is continuing to play at a very high level, and it is true that many prefer him to Riquelme. There is a strong interest towards him from a number of clubs in Brazil at the moment but Seba has chosen to snub them as his intentions are to stay in Argentina. The only offer that could change his current stance is one from Lazio. Faced with an offer from Lazio, Veron would think long and hard,” added the Argentinian transfer expert.

The ex-Biancocelesti number 23 has recently finished the Apertura season for Estudiantes.

"He was a key figure for the duration of the season. How much would his transfer cost? This would not be out of Lazio’s reach and should Veron decide to leave Estudiantes he would do so without little problems. His wages are also well within Lazio’s parameters as he currently earns below a million euros a season," Ascari continued.

With Lazio Patron Claudio Lotito recently promising a big name signing during the transfer window, could a return from the Witch be the gift that Laziali are eagerly awaiting?

LOTITO:

Juan Sebastian Veron's return to Lazio is looking increasingly unlikely after club president Claudio Lotito revealed he doesn't want the former midfielder back.

Reports suggested the Argentinean could be on his way back to Serie A, and it was Veron himself who revealed he would welcome a Lazio switch.

However, Lotito doesn't believe his side need the midfielder's services as he applies the brakes on Veron's ambition.

"I don't like old horses returning," Lotito told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"I don't want to praise my club, but it seems to me as if many people have expressed a will to return.

"Maybe they have realised making a mistake in the first place by leaving when the club was in difficulty."

Veron was at the club during the Cragnotti era but he left when financial problems struck them.

Meanwhile, Stefano Mauri will not be joining Juventus as far as Lotito is concerned. The left-sided midfielder has been touted as Pavel Nedved's replacement, but the chief has shackled him.

"I can assure everyone that Mauri will stay with us and I confirm that I have not recieved an offer from Juventus for him," concluded Lotito.
