PostSubject: Nice restaurants in Rome.   Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:09 pm

Didn't know where to put the topic but I want tips about nice, fancy restaurants in Rome with good winelists, relaxed atmosphere etc.
Money is not an object, so it can be expensive places to more cheap places with amazing italian food.

Post links to the restaurants as well if there is one.
Going with my gf on the derbyweekend and we want to eat really good, italian cuisine!

Cheers!

Go over the river to Trastevere, just go and seek and try out....

My experience has been good food and bad food which sort of adds up to the excitement of trying, there`s many places that come recommended only to deliver poor mediocre service.Don`t listen either to those who say there`s nothing good in the Termini area cos it`s not 100% true.. Avoid places with pictures displayed (food) and take a little time to see who`s inside the gaff....if there`s lots of Itals nattering and munching inside give it a try....

Ermetico, one time I remember you took me and Ville to a place with the best pasta ever. The owner was a Laziale and I remember that I gave him my Biancocelste-cap.

The question is: what was the name of the place?

Couldn't it be the Piccolo Bistrot? For me one of the best places to go to. And please, just don't go around and look for a good restaurant. Often you are actually quite unlucky. Even in Rome you need to know where the good places are.

Pojke, the name of the restaurant was Mamma Angelina that Paolo already mentioned, very nice place indeed. Probably my best dinner ever in Rome was at Enoteca Ferrara, Piazza Trilussa, Trastevere. Best place to eat seafood must be La Rosetta, nearby Pantheon.

Ah, thanks a lot Ville. I remember we went on drinking some whiskey that night, maybe that's why I could not remember... Wink

I miss Rome a lot.

Yeah Me too. We had plenty of Oban at Excalibur that night. I still have the card from Mamma Angelina btw. Great lad the owner, gave us some nice wines to go.

Other nice restaurants:

City Centre: Fortunato Al Pantheon, L'Arcano (Check out the huge wine cellar at L'Arcano, exceptional selection. I got some free tastings and they showed me a pic of Gorbachew drinking at the same cellar just some time before.) Also the already mentioned Enoteca Ferrara has an unbelievable selection of wines. 'Gusto quite nearby Piazza Del Popolo offers traditional roman classics in somewhat trendy, clean, gay athmosphere, but the food is fucking good. With small Trattorias and Hostarias you have to know where to go, cos some of them are total tourist ripoffs. Avoid eating nearby Barberini.

Trastevere: Il Ciak, Checco Er Carrettiere (If I remember correctly this is where the first Lazio scudetto team used to eat.)

Good Pizzerias: Da Baffetto, La Montecarlo

I'll list more good restaurants as soon as the names pop into my mind.

If you like okay to good food for not so much money then I'd recommend Pastarito:

http://www.pastarito.it/en/locali/citta.asp?citta=Roma

Also good, although Paolo will hate me for this too: Very Happy

Pizza Re Via di Ripetta, 14

On Monday, at least it used to be like this, all pizzas were 6 Euros, probably a bit more now. Make sure they will give you the real price though.
