Hard to predict this one.

I firmly believe the players are now playing for themselves and no one else. I question how much these guys value Rossi as a coach, Lotito as a president, fans as supporters.

Must be difficult to play for a coach that fans hate and media reckon should be sacked.
Must be difficult to play for a president that everyone seems to hate.
Must be difficult to play for fans who turn up at training to threaten you and abuse you from the stands after one bad game.

The club is suffering and the players are probably the least to blame out of everyone. How do we win this game? Rossi, Lotito and the team come out talking like their united and showing their united and the fans get behind them. That's not going to happen and as a result, I wouldn't bank on three points.

We have to win, no other choice...
I think we should change a bit:

Carizzo - Lichsteiner, Rozenhal, Diakhite, Radu - Ledesma, Dabo, Matuzalem - Foggia - Zarate/Pandev, Rocchi

- I think our main problem is that we have only a few players that play constantly good. Actually I think only 3 at the moment: Lichsteiner, Foggia and Rocchi.
So, we should rotate the rest a bit to get the best out of it. Rocchi should in my opinion be a starter. I don't get why we always start with him as a sub...I mean Zarate and Pandev score in one game, then have 1-2 average games, while Rocchi scores every time he is needed.
- I think Muslera is doing a good job, but not an amazing one. Unlike the rest, I see him only as a good goalie. Nothing less, nothing more. I think Carizzo is our no. 1 goalie and we should do our best to integrate him. I mean, a goalie like Carizzo can influence the result of the game (especially when the rest of the team is playing bad) much more than Muslera.

Catania gave us a lot of tough time in the first leg, Simone Inzaghi scored the equalizer in the dying minutes....

I think they are the tough team to play with, and we do suffer against such teams, teams like Catania, Chievo, Cagliari, because they play a closed game against us since we are on paper stronger...

I do hope they attack us a lot at home, Lazio will play better when the opponents are attacking not closing their lines and playing dead balls.

And every player who sucked in the Chievo game should not see the pitch as a punishment...

Get in back Diakite and Radu and Rozenhal and keep Lichsteiner...

Dabo should be back and Matuzalem should stay while Ledesma should be warming the bench ! Is Meghni back ? because that is the only way we can bench Ledesma.

And I want us to play a 4-4-2, the 4-3-3 is killing us, it does not give us control in midfield and ends up making the midfield just pass the ball to the attacking three when they are not deep enough, and then our only way to score is by some amgical display which arrives only now and then....

Rocchi and either Zarate or Pandev in the attack, and I want Foggia and either Zarate or Pandev on the flanks, I think Zarate can play as a RW with Foggia as a LW and keep Rocchi and Pandev as attackers. With Zarate's speed and dribbling and Foggia's creativity, we can be on fire on the flanks and thus create decent chances....

Sorry Meyo..but it didnt looked to me that Cagliari or Chievo played dead balls and defending with 2 lines. On a contrary..they were all over us till they scored 3 or 4 goals (god how this sounds.. are we really Lazio?). You mentioned those 2 teams and in those matches i got the impresion that we were playing dead (balls affraid ) and defending like hell cause we werent capable to do something in the attack.

I just hope that Ledesma wont bet on Catania this week like he did last week with Chievo.

No, that was against Lecce. Against Catania we won 1-0 after a late goal by Foggia.

Hm, Catania at their ground....
Even more difficult than Chievo for me. We will be lucky , if we took something.
It is vital for us this season , how we start the match. If we start well and score , we are going to take some punti, if not , better prepare yourself....

This is definately a more difficult game than Chievo and the atmospheare will be hostile as they pack 18,000-20000 catania fans into that ground week in week out. But Catania will attack us more than Chievo did, as opposed to playing us on the counter. Therefore i see it more like the Napoli game, we will have to take our chances on the break so i think Rocchi should start as he seems more likely to be able to do this than the others at the current moment. Catania are are dangerous team but which one will turn up, the side that beat Palermo 4 - 0 or the side that then lost to siena at home 3 - 0. Then again the same applies to us, will the team that imploded to Chievo turn up or the team that beat Juve turn up? Lets hope the players are motivated for this one.

Hi everybody.....Long time to post...

I really have a concern, I don't know how many people here will agree but, In all honesty, I want to see Litch making his way to the bench! this player, and with all my due repect, can't cross one single ball correctly! desperetly seeking the ball every time doesn't make from u so special!! I might be harsh here, but once we are down, his contribution is really good for nothing on the right side, his defense is okay but he really sucks a big time when he goes forward.

Lets hope Rossi will not forget that there is a suposed great prospect called Lorenzo De Silvestri warming the Rossi's prison, sorry, the bench.

Well Carrizo will be our no 1 on saturday when we face catania, i hope he proves himself with some spectacular saves.
Muslera makes room for Carrizo
Tuesday 17 March, 2009
Lazio will be forced to field Argentina’s number one goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo after Nestor Fernando Muslera sustained a back injury.

Carrizo was dropped to the bench during the campaign after a series of disappointing performances, but will get his chance to shine after all.

Muslera pulled up during today’s training session with a pulled muscle in his back and has already begun physiotherapy.

This means Carrizo will go between the posts for Saturday’s Serie A match with Catania.

It is good timing for the Argentine, who was told last week by Diego Maradona that he remained the first name on the teamsheet, but not for much longer if he didn’t play regularly.

“I did not advise him to leave Lazio,” insisted Maradona. “He was the one who told me that he had already asked the President to quit this summer. It's important he plays, as he is my number one choice for goalkeeper.”

ch4

Carrizo deserves to be second to no one! Good luck JPC!

Get better soon Nando !

Well this is a chance for Carrizo to prove himself and to be honest, I am not very sad at Maradona's comments, you cannot have a team with two good keepers, and to be honest Rossi is doing this thing right, Nando had his chance and proved he is up to it, it is wrong in coaching terms to push someone to the bench when he is in such a good form, what message would that send to him ?

At the same time I understand Carrizo wanting to leave if he stays second choice, after all a GK is not a midfielder or attacker who might get some playing time from time to time....

Thanks for the Lecce correction, apparently then I have not watched the first leg with Catania...

Well if you guys are saying they will attack us a lot, I think this is good, because we are very lethal in counter attacks...

And I don't know, but I like it when Rocchi comes from the bench, he always seems to make a difference as opposed to staring from the beginning where you see him fading away....

As for Litch not crossing well, I think he is not the same compared to his start of the season, maybe its after the injury still, I dont know, but you cannot deny he gives a push for the offense, but when he plays we need a defensive midfielder on the right to cover his back and that would be Brocchi.

Problem is that you cannot but have your side backs going forward when you are playing a 4-3-3 like Rossi does, however switch to 4-4-2 and there you have midfielder wings instead of side backs, I still would like to see Zarate on the right wing, I seriously think he can do something and that would leave more space to Rocchi and Pandev who have a great understanding together.

I also think so , but Zarate has to provide more for Pandev and Rocchi , he has to create opportunities for them instead of trying to finish all by himself.
This is the difference , I can't see him to do that , because he is not mature enough.

Well back Laziophilic !! Glad to have you with us again.
As for Lich..i said something like you some time ago, and then many jumped into my head with things like "Lich has been the best for us this all season". In my opinion he isnt that good at all and except that ball for Foggia with Lecce..he really can`t cross. He just can`t. And i don`t believe that he is that a good defender either. I mean he wants, he tries..can`t blame him for that..but he has limits, big time. So De Silverstri should be nr. 1.

As for Muslera injury... don`t we have another GK ? I really don`t want to see Carrizo ..with all my respect.

If we're comparing De Silvestri to Lichtsteiner then it must be said, in all fairness, neither can cross the ball in the box. Simple.

But just to be clear, I prefer Licht. His dedication, constant runs down the right, decent defending (not great) and great instinct on the overlap, it takes skill and strength to produce anything with Brocchi.

De Silvestri is obviously physically stronger, their speed is about the same, things I don't like about him is that when he loses the ball up front he has a very hard time chasing the player back, and his defending is in my opinion a tad below Lichts.
My biggest resentment towards him is that stupid red card against Fiorentina. He got a second yellow for an amateurish childish tug on the shirt at the center of the pitch leaving us hanging for over an hour. The way that game was shaping up we could have demolished Fiorentina instead we went down in the 90th.

He deserves a second chance, everybody does, maybe even a third and fourth since he's young and relatively inexperienced, but he should start making good use of those chances or it's bench for Lorenzo.

And Catania will be hell. nothing more to say.

Oh how costly those 3 points we gave Chievo are going to be if we don't get our act together. Playing @ the Massimino is never easy. Amazing how one week can crush your morale. A perfect example of what we SHOULD be doing is....take 3 against Chievo and trying to get 3 against Catania away, but realizing 1 is okay. 4 points in 2 games.

Now, we're on the verge of receiving 0 points in 2 games, because we can't get our sh*t together.

COME ON, LAZIO! Another must must must must win...yet, I'm not holding my breath.

Prove me wrong, ragazzi.

It's probably the first time I really agree with you! Very Happy Brocchi does a lot of hard work as a defensive midfielder, but he's too slow to be right midfielder. Because of this Lazio barely use right wing to attack. That's why Lazio is forded to play only on the left where Foggia is doing really good. However, our opponents know this, they can concentrate to stop Foggia (Chievo did it really well) and we're starting to struggle. So since we don't have any good right midfielder (Maybe Meghni could be an option but he's always injured and Foggia isn't that good on the right), Rossi could let both Licht and Lollo play. It would give more opportunities to attack through the right wing and and our Lazio wouldn't be so predictable anymore. And what is most imporant, Lollo would get a chance to shine.. Many people say that he's a mediocre player and hadn't proved anything but how he could show his skills in last 10 minutes of the game?

The referee was over the top on de silvestri against Fiorentina. Personally, id rather have them both develop in the side. I like Lich, but if De Silvestri is the next big thing defensively then he needs time. Its the same at left back, with Kolarov and Radu both swapping places in the bench every so often. Personally, why not move one of them up on the right wing with the other at rb. We cant seriously be thinking about keeping brocchi there long term, because as has been mentioned there is no offensive threat and it is so obvious where our attacking play will be built from.
