PostSubject: Mutarelli in Lazialitá   Mon May 26, 2008 11:43 pm

Fallowing interview was made by the official Lazio magazine Lazialitá in April 2007. Laziofever translated the main parts of it.

*****

Massimo, a classic question even to you, when and where did you start playing football?
- I was around six years old, I started in my home town team, Cassano d'Adda. We often organized tournaments with the bigger teams, where represants from the Milano-teams, Brescia and Atalanta were present. One observator, sent from the Bergamo-squad, selected me while I still was playing with the child teams, about nine years old, and proposed to me to play for their organisation.

Are your family the sporty kind?
- No, not crazy about sports, but I was lucky to have a family that allowed me to do whatever I wanted to. Like many others I practiced swimming for two years, but then I decided to leave the sport in favor for the football and my parents didn't do anything to stop me.

Did you support any team?
- Yes, Milan. A feeling that I carried with me for a long time, but of course, playing against them is another thing...

Did you enjoy any other sports than football?
- I enjoyed very much the go-cart and the cyclings, but in general I'am one of those that enjoys a little part of every sport.

In witch position did you play in the beginning?
- I always played as a central midfielder. Of course in the youth teams we switched positions sometimes, I even played as a defender, but my general position was on the central midfield even then.

I Laziali still doesn't know very much about you, how would you like to descrive yourself?
- Well, according to everyone I'm a very shy person and outside the pitch I'm very calm - I enjoy to spend time with my family and my friends. Nothing special. I think I'm one of the players that doesn't talk that much. And I think that's kind of my signum: I want to be recognized for the things that I do, not the things that I say. In the pitch I'm not the kind of player that kisses the shirts and stuff like that, but if there's an opportunity of doing something extra I certainly don't back off. It's easy to talk every day and start polemics, much more difficult to demonstrate it. I think I'm one of those that serves the porpuse of being a player that helps on the pitch, not talk. That's it.

Are you married?
- I'm married with Antonella, but at this point we don't have any children.

..........................

Moving on to Lazio, when did you hear about their interrest in signing you?
- Practically directly after the championship (2005/2006, translaters note). My contract was running out and I had not been able to find an agreement with Palermo, so I was able to choose the option that was going to be the best for my career. Many teams showed their interest, but at that point it seemed to me that Lazio was most determined in signing me.

Why did you like the idea of Lazio?
- Because they remain one of the best teams in Italy, a great opportunity for my career. I also noticed that the team played a great championship the year before, a great group of players that did fine but also wanted to keep it up the years to come. The fact that I knew some players was also important, and of course that I also had worked with the manager. All together, it was a small mix of many things that contributed to my decision to dress in the biancoceleste shirt.

How did the beginning in Lazio went?
- Fine. I already knew some players, some of them were even my age. I didn't suffered any problems with the integration. The guys are very good with welcoming new players.

...........................

How is your relationship with Rome?
- Beatiful. I like to take walks in it, I like to experience it. I often go for a walk with my wife to watch whatever there is to watch. So, I think I have a very good relationship with the city.

You come from relatively big cities with very passionated supporters, do you think that has helped you to handle the pressure in Rome?
- Yes. I think both Genova and Palermo made me think as a player and prepared me better to handle the typical difficulties in a great place like Rome and a important and glorios club like Lazio.

Do you preferr Stadio Olimpico or Stadio Marassi?
- Without any doubts Olimpico. If it was possible I would have removed the running fields, but to me it's great even like this. To play at Olimpico was one of my dreams when I was a child, and now it has come true and I have the chance to play in a construction that gives you great emotions.

Do you have any best friends in the team?
- Having played together for a while in Bergamo, naturally I have a bit better relationship with Luciano Zauri. I also knew Baronio before I came to Rome and I have to say that these two are the ones that I use to spend most time together with outside the pitch. But infact I have to say that we're a great group. When there are dinners or something to celebrate we always unites to enjoy the evenings together. I have to say that our group is great aswell on the pitch as outside, and that's a very important thing.

................................

The goal in the derby was one of your biggest moments in your career?
- Yes, without competition, together with the promotion with Palermo. But these are different things, the first came after a long season, the other all in one night. However, I will never forget that goal. The ball from Tommaso to Mauri that did a magnificant technical thing, and he was unlucky because he really deserved a goal after his performence that night. The ball bounced from the bar and I found myself in position, because I had been taking the occasion and was really determined from the incredible enthusiasm from our supporters. And after the ball hit the net, I went to hug Stefano and together we went under La Curva that literally exploded in happiness, because when I score a goal I always go to thank the one that assisted me or the one that created the opportunity, because the goal is just a consecvence of a thing that is created together.

i have mixed feelings about Muta. On one side, he allways gives his all on the field for Lazio and sometimes can be our MVP on the pitch. On the other side, he sometimes makes so many stupid mistakes that cost us a good result. Plus, he doesn't function that good with Ledesma in the midfield as well as Dabo.

Only complaint about his performances are his constant discussions with the referee's which more often than not earn him a yellow card.

Mutarelli: “Roma wanted me”

After Ledesma, Mutarelli is another thorny case for Claudio Lotito. Despite the club warning against organizing press conferences outside Formello, Mutarelli wanted to explain himself the way he saw his exclusion from Auronzo’s retreat: “ At first I was in the called up list but just 2 hours before the departures, I learned that I wasn’t going anymore. I tried to speak to Lotito and he told me that it was due to dressing room problems: someone was against my presence in the retreat.”

Anger: Palermo’s ex midfielder accused his teammates:” I’ve read in newspapers that the president tried to middle but some players were against the idea. If that was true than the players count more than the coach and president, otherwise Lotito would have told me many lies.” Therefore Mutarelli decided to speak to tell his own truth: “I chose to have my say at the end of the retreat and I have started an urgent procedure at the lega to breach the contract. For the lack of reinstatement Lazio will certainly pay a fine.”

The future: Mutarelli tried to imagine what will happen next: “The squads who wanted me so far are: Udinese, Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Roma. Yes even the giallorossi have contacted me: Spalletti was testing the water. Torino have also proposed an exchange with Barone. Returning to Lazio? If I had to rejoin the group I don’t want a repeat to what happened to Sereni who was brushed on the side, I want to train with the others.”

Rossi: The player is also having it with the coach:” He has disappointed on the human level. He tells everyone that he has a good relation with the players and that he tells them things in their face. With who stayed in Formello it wasn’t like that. Rossi technically is a good coach, but for the rest he disappointed me a lot. Not even a phone call for the one he considered an indispensable player. To the point that he want me to play even when I wasn’t okay.”

thank u nomade for the translation, I was waiting for this one.

I am not a big fan of Muta, yet there is something wrong from the humanistic point of view as Muta has the rights to defend himself, but we heared from one side testimony and I am curious to know what both Lotito and Rossi will reply later on.

Those are Muta qoutes in a past interview, I am speechless as we all know what is Mr.Zauri and Mr.Baronio status in Lazio.

Anyway it is all over he as he didn't follow the club statements to not speak to the press without Lazio permision, anyway good luck Muta and thank u for everything you did for Lazio.

At the moment, I actually think we need Muta. It is a shame that he has been treated as he has been treated. For the moment he is the only player that I can see being a replacement for Dabo...I know he is not in Misters plans but maybe we should have had a new agreement with a DM before excluding him...

Muta can do a job for anyone, even Lazio, it will be sad if he goes, I wasn't too keen on him prior to Lazio but he has provided me with good memories and has always shown an appetite for Lazio.

Even though he could be useful, if we can get a "younger model" in, then I think maybe it's best for both parties if he departs.

Mutarelli takes Lazio to court Saturday 6 September, 2008

The legal battle between Lazio and Massimo Mutarelli is hotting up despite his return to training, as he has demanded damages and a contract termination.

Mutarelli started legal action against the Biancocelesti when he and several other stars were excluded from the pre-season training camp.

“There wasn’t enough room in the hotel, so we decided to leave some players in Rome who the Coach already knows and does not need to evaluate,” insisted President Claudio Lotito (pictured).

“We had an agreement with some clubs and at the end of the day they pulled out.”

Those players – Mutarelli, Simone Inzaghi, Berni, Santarelli and Belleri – returned to training with the rest of the squad for the first time on Friday.

“It seems very strange that the call should come just before entering the court room,” mused lawyer Marco Ierati.

“I have read and heard some evident inaccuracies around Mutarelli. He certainly did not ask to be sold and never turned down a move to Torino.

“These affirmations are false, as two years ago he tied himself to this project and even today would’ve been happy to become a part of it again.

“Besides, privately President Lotito told him he would be part of the first choice midfielders along with Francelino Matuzalem and Cristian Ledesma.

“Seeing as these words were not backed up by action, and that the player was forced to stop performing his job by spending the summer locked away in a sort of cage with the bare minimum fitness training, he decided to demand the termination of his contract and damages for what he had to go through.

“I should point out it is also false that Mutarelli rejected a move to Torino. Just an hour before the transfer window closed, an agreement between the clubs was hinted at, but it never concluded.”

My goodness...I do think Mutarelli was treated unfairly but I think he is taking the piss a bit with that statement. Locked away in a cage indeed and asking for compensation?? It must have been so horrible for him to train at Formello all summer and get paid for it too! Ah the inhumanity! Very Happy

Mutarelli decision postponed

The decision about Massimo Mutarelli, that should have been made on friday, has been postponed until 18th September. The reason is that the court wants to see how well the combination Mutarelli-Lazio will work until then, considering Mutarelli has recently been re-invited to the the squad.

He got the chance to play in the latest friendly, and as the article says, he is re-invted to the team so I think that it is not too unlikely that he will actually be a part of the squad soon. Remember we have a shitty medical staff and we tend to get loads of injuries so it is only a matter of time I would say before we need Mutarelli...now how that would work is a nother question...

Another 30 days for Mutarelli

Yesterday Claudio Lotito and Massimo Mutarelli were heard, once again, infront of Lega Calcio's court that will decide the players destiny. Lotito's lawyer Gentile claims that a deal with Torino worth € 5 million (loan with option to buy) was reached, but failed in the last minute when Lazio didn't receive any response to the fax with the last details. Gentile also claims Mutarelli specifically asked to leave the club.

Mutarelli's agent is however sticking to another story and claims that the € 5 million-deal was never for real, and that the player never asked to leave Lazio. The court has now asked for 30 more days to take their final decision. Until then Mutarelli will be kept outside the team.
