Davide Ballardini

Career Information

- Davide was born in Ravenna on the 6th January 1964.
- He spent the majority of his playing career at AC Cesena where he learned his trade from greats such as Osvaldo Bagnoli and Arrigo Sacchi.
- He was youth coach at AC Milan at a time when ex-Lazio coach, Alberto Zaccheroni was in charge.
- In 2004, he took charge of Serie C1/B side Sambenedettese Calcio and guided them to the promotion play-off where they were defeated by Napoli.
- In 2005, he became manager of Cagliari but was sacked early in the season. He took control of Pescara the following season only to befall a similar fate.
- In December 2007, Davide was called back to Cagliari and managed to direct a struggling side to Serie A survival. He left the club after failing to negotiate a new contract.
- Davide succeeded Stefano Colantuono at Palermo early in the 2008/2009 season and lead them to a credible 8th place in Serie A. After a disagreement with club president Maurizio Zamparini, Davide decided to depart the club.
- On 15th June 2009, Davide reportedly signed a two-year contract with Lazio with an option for a further year. He is expected to fetch a salary in the region of 750,000 euro per year.

Coaching Style

Davide's coaching style is widely regarded to be unique and entertaining. His sides tend to play an unmistakable brand of calcio and there is also a distinct reliance on young players. His expression is often commented upon; he has a persona, his dark shades and somewhat threatening appearance is backed up by a reluctancy to be overly-expressive on the touchline. Davide will bring a certain 'mystique' to the Olimpico.

I hope for the best. Although I wonder what qualities he actually has as a coach...

From the previous topic:

Quote :

Judging by his CV I'm not at all excited.

Here's why:
- He's never been at a top club and doesn't have any European Cup expierence.
- His head coach expierence so far only lasted 5 years
As a consequence he's yet to manage more than one season (we've signed a two-year contract), while his Serie A expierence is few weeks plus half a season with Cagliari and a season with Palermo.
- Palermo might have finished 7 points ahead of us but they've actually achieved nothing by doing that. Besides they lost the derby to Catania 0-4 and had some other rather disappointing results this season, for example losing to Ravenna in the Coppa Italia.

To his credit Palermo also managed to beat Juve, Milan and rioma this season, while last year he's done very well with Cagliari in the second part of the season. Having Osvaldo Bagnoli as 'mentor' is also nice but it's remains to be seen whether this will help much.

All in all he still has a lot to prove to fill in Delio Rossi's shoes. Having said all this, I wish him the best of luck.

Hopefully this change will give us a fresh start and Ballardini will succeed. At least we have a manager who can now plan for the transfer market and pre-season.

They lost in Coppa under Colatuono, and u forget wins against Riomma 3:1, away win against Juve 2:1, win against Milan 3:1, away win against Firentina 2:0.
Thats much more than Delio did in 5 seasons.

Welcome Davide. Very excited by his appointment, entertaining football is key with players like Zarate and Foggia. Can't wait to kick-start the calciomercato now!

Welcome Davide.

At least he can beat the big clubs, something that Rossi could not do in Serie A. To go for the scudetto, we need to beat top 3 clubs to have our share in winning scudetto.

This year should be good. I just hope Pandev and Ledesma stay put.

I have to ask the italians in LazioFever.
What do they think about him in Italy? What does the newspapers say?
And of course how did the people in Rome take the news when they heard that Ballardini is the new coach of Lazio?

Ballardini is somewhat of a slow starter. I just hope that all those who called for Rossi's head will give him the time he deserves.

I think he was a worthy candidate and should prove to be a competent leader for our team.
