Vince Grella would have been a terrific signing for Lazio. By far the best Australian player IMO along with Cahill. Plus he knows the Italian game very well and is experienced.

Only thing I don't like about Grella was his dirty two footed tackle (more like a karate kick) the other night on NZ's Leo Bertos in the friendly match. Deserved a straight red card but only got a yellow.

We should've signed Grella when Mutarelli and Mudingayi left. English football has ruined him, not his style at all.

Agree. He has not fitted in well in the Premier League. If I recall correctly, he was available at a very reasonable price when he was leaving Torino right?

Was sold to Rovers for 4 Million. Bargain.

Just out of interest. Blackburn have agreed terms with Galatasaray for the sale of Grella. Barring a breakdown in personal terms, Vincenzo will be in the Turkish Super Lig next season.

Shane Smeltz anyone?

He is the A-League's best striker IMO (and the golden boots prove it), and as much as I like him I doubt he would cut it in Serie A. Although it would be awesome seeing a Kiwi at Lazio! Very Happy

I'd like to see him move to Europe however, maybe an English side? I think he would do alright in Germany as well.

He actually flopped in the English Conference but I'd love to see Lazio sign him!

Purely for the novelty factor of having Smeltz in our team.

Portsmouth are having a massive clear out and have some interesting players Lazio could consider - Ricardo Rocha (free), Kevin-Prince Boateng (2.5 million pounds), Nadir Belhadj (4 million pounds) and Ben Haim (2 million pounds).

Personally I've always been a fan of Belhadj, and he's a left back so is just what we need. From the few EPL games I've watched not once has he disappointed. He would be difficult to sign however as Barcelona and several English and French sides are interested, as well as Merda - and especially so if he has a good WC.

From what I know Belhajd has a pre-contract with PSG. The other ones suck ...

Rocha = No No No No No
KPB = No No No No No
Belhadj = No mainly cos he is a card magnet and is very poorly disciplined in defending.

I thought belhadj is going to rangers. they were interested. City cut off Martin Petrov. 31 years freakin fast left winger. had problems the last two years but every time he played he just rocked

Martin Petrov in another dimension where he is never injured would be one hell of a signing... as he is he is Matuzalem and Meghni rolled into one extra-fragile glass physio room patient... with a big wage... who looks twice as old as he actually is...

Crying or Very sad

Hahaha..... honestly though I think Ben Haim and Rocha would be decent back ups but nothing more, and Boateng has potential. But I still stand by what I said about Belhadj. tongue

Petrov would be a dream!

No thanks. He is over 30 and I'd rather stick with Makinwa (he's the same version of him).

i sugest long before petrov and i m stil think that he could be good sign(expecialy now as the free transfer).
its true that last two years he have a lot of problems with injuries but if he can stil play why not, also premier league is phisicaly stronger than serie-a and they have two cups(the number of games for one season is biger),playing whithout rest so the injuries are in the air Wink
also one more time i will repaid that if we proporsonaly use the players this could cover their ages, example if we use petrov only for serie-a matchs and after every three or four matchs give him the break.
also is good to use this reconstruction of city and try to bring ireland

After watching the first match I have a candidate to put forward as a possible left sided player to replace Kolarov - Carlos Salcido of Mexico and PSV. I know he is 30 now but I have always rated him as an attacking full-back or wing-back and he certainly proved for Mexico that he can still get up and down the line. How long a contract he is on, how keen he'd be to move and how much he'd cost is another matter, I just think he could do a good job as an attacking LWB in a 3-4-1-2/3-5-2 that we are likely to stick with. He is also a competent defender.

I'd add Guardado too as someone a side like us should be looking at.

Good shout on him, although I thought he was a winger and he seemed to be playing more central? I thought Gaxa of SA was a pretty neat player as well!

Gaxa and Tshabalala are both decent players and I actually think Dikgacoi can become a top holding midfielder but then Hodgson already knows that, doesn't he?

Guardado can play on either wing, seems a bit wasted at Depor and if we want to invest Kolarov cash wisely, there is a good player there to sound out.

Hehe, we'll have this thread filled with players after the first round of matches, I just wonder if our scouts and boss are looking at any that we will!!?!!!

Dikgacoi (I'm sure it should be pronounced Dica~shway or similar rather than as Peter Drury said literally Dik-a-coy?) will hopefully get more game time at Fulham next season and could develop well under Roy, having said that he could as easily disappear if he doesn't get those games.

Aguilar was good too...

Guardado would be a great transfer, young and versatile. Played very well today sending in some nice crosses setting some chances (including the assist for Marquez). For me he was Mexico's best player. I wonder when his contract expires and if he would be a realistic target? Just read Deportivo paid around 7 million euros for him in 2007.

Roman Riquelme's contract has expired at the end of last season, even at the age of 32, he still is one of the best playmaker in world football at the moment. He'd would do good for us, and he's free

If west ham can get him, why can't we? Forget about Ederson, Martinez, Gonzalez, get Riquelme, he's free.. he holds EU passport, and we badly need a playmaker..

I really like some of the Swiss National Team they always give their all. Gelson I think would be the perfect replacement for Brocchi, he's strong a fighter and can win some good balls, he's fast and can somethimes help in the attacking department. Also they have Gritchting and Ziegler who are also good enough. We can try and look if any of these might be available in the market this season, we can be sure they give 100% for our shirt.
