Celtic have said they will not panic buy before the CL so I expect nothing to happen on the Meghni front for quite a while, even if it's true.

Hard to say how the mercato will unfold over the coming weeks. When the guys head off to Auronzo, i'm sure we will have a greater idea of Ballardini's plans for this squad. If big players are left behind, inevitably they will depart.

Until then, I half expect Lotito to sign a few more guys, namely a forward and a centre-back. The speculation that has intensified today are the names of Baclet and Lugano. Perhaps some truth in this, especially in the former?

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Lotito is proposing a possible cash & player deal to Lyon for Ederson.

Im presuming something like Pandev + 4-6 Million Euro's.

However i see little chance of this, as Ederson's agent claims he wants to stay at Lyon, after interest from Inter.

But you never know.

Intereses diversos

it says that we are after Banega, Coloccini and Lugano, for me Lugano would be the best purchase of the mercato, the guy could come in for free, and he is an excellent defender, he is very much like materazzi, a strong, sometimes dirty player, but very effective. the source is espn.

I'm very scared at how this mercato is shaping up.

We are selling nobody, our best players want to leave us and we signed a good goalkeeper when we already have one and various good back-ups and a winger who is relatively unproven. It now seems we want to spend millions on a second-rate Brazilian who has only ever done well at mediocre French sides.

If you take Ledesma and Pandev out of the side and say this is our squad for next season, then, if we progress in the Europa League, I think we end up in a relegation battle.

The squad is nowhere near strong enough and we are not signing the right players in my opinion. Ok, Eliseu could be a decent winger but considering we can play Foggia, Del Nero, Mauri, Manfredini, Meghni, Brocchi, Lichtsteiner and De Silvestri in his two positions, what was the point?

If we lose Ledesma, Matuzalem and Dabo, which is very possible, are Manfredini and Firmani good enough to keep us up? Yes, this is an overreaction of sorts but where are we going to get the money to bring in some half-decent midfielders when we have over 50 players on the payroll.

I see no improvement on last year's league position at present. There is much work to be done and with pre-season training starting soon, it needs to be done fairly quickly in my opinion.

Yes but at present, it looks like we're keeping the deadwood and selling our best players. That's a concern.

I guess the problem is that we havent sold ANYONE yet..If we are looking for quality players coming in, we must also realise that we first have to get some players out. i agree with Caxi, I am worried because we are linked to so much quality but we seem to not act in a way that would mean that we are meaning to actually improve our team. But as I posted yesterday or so, the departure of Pandev and Ledesma is our major problems at this point, We need to get these two out, before that we cannot transfer any quality players in on their positions.

When it comes to all the players we really dont need, I dont know what to say. Most of them are in a state where they make enough money to accept being benched - specially considering their age...we need to get them out...but who would want to buy them???

I agree Caxi, and I'm a bit worried too but the mercato officially opens on the 1st of July so there is still time for Lotito to sort things out. Players like Pandev and Ledesma I assume will only be sold (if they are indeed sold) towards the end of the transfer window with clubs making last minute bids for them. At least I hope so, but even so, this is holding up Lazio's mercato as Lotito can't spend or negotiate much with other players and their clubs.

As for the deadwood leaving - it's not looking very promising. I thought when Lotito signed Eliseu that Malaga would take Makinwa, Scaloni or Baronio with them as part of the deal? I read it on some reports but I guess not. I'm interested in knowing why and how such players have such long contracts with Lazio. It seems as though they have been here for years on end yet their contracts probably aren't even close to expiring.

Up to this point, considering the window hasn't opened yet, the mercato has been average. Lotito has managed to extend Foggia's contract until 2013 which is beyond brilliant news, and has bought Zarate outright. These two dealings are very good for years to come. Lotito has also signed two very cheap, but quality players in Bizzarri and Eliseu. However one thing which is still pissing me off right now is how we could not sign Acquafresca. I'm still so gutted. Atalanta I think have nearly completed the loan signing. What a terrific signing he would have been and would have virtually solved Lazio's attack - whether Goran bums around here without extending his contract, or not. Also what is happening with Matuzalem? Carrizo wants to go to Zaragoza, they want him, we want Francelino, he wants Lazio. It should be relatively straight forward.

The majority of players Lazio are being linked to sound promising and if some of those become reality then it could turn out to be a successful summer for us. As I mentioned before Acquafresca has probably no chance of joining Lazio now which is a real blow but if Berg for example can be signed up then it won't seem so bad. One striker I don't see any point in bringing here is Gomis and I hope Lotito stops his pursuit of him. There are some good, relatively cheap players out there - and in fact two free central defenders in Lugano and Onweyu.

Keep in mind that Ballardini has just been hired, and he needs time to look at which players are at his disposal and what qualities they bring to his style, what formation he intends to play, which players can leave and which players he needs to fill the empty spots for the upcoming season. I assume this will take some time - but needs to be hurried up a bit as well so that the unneeded players are put on the market and the board start looking for players which need to be brought in.

Maybe this will cheer you up Caxi..... Lazio are interested in Fabio Simplicio (29 years old) again and could cost around 4 million Euros. His agent is said to be flying into Rome soon to discuss the possibility of him joining. Ballardini is keen to have him in his squad again so this is positive news. I don't know if he is the central midfielder I would want most here, but at least he has Serie A experience (unlike Banega, Battaglia, etc.), and Ballardini knows what he can offer Lazio, so obviously has a lot of faith and confidence in him.

Pandev could stay
Friday 26 June, 2009
Having spent most of the summer telling the Italian Press Goran Pandev will leave Lazio, his agent Leonardo Corsi now believes he could actually stay in the capital.

The 25-year-old Macedonia international striker has made it clear on several occasions that he wants a move that will take his career to the next level.

He has recently been linked with Juventus and Bayern Munich. However, Napoli have emerged as the No 1 contenders for his signature.

“It's a difficult deal. There has not been any progress,” Corsi said referring to Napoli's interest in Pandev.

“As of today, it's more probable Pandev will stay rather than leave Lazio.”

Given his public desire to leave, it will be interesting to see how the Biancocelesti faithful receive Pandev next season should he still be at the club.

To his credit, Pandev has always spoken of his gratitude towards Lazio, who he believes made him the player he is today.

---------------------

Pandev has actually been a nice bloke. We need to respect him and his choice. But I would be extremely pleased with him if he extended his contract with Lazio so that if he wishes again to leave next season, then we can at least get some money for him.

I prefer it if he stayed on and signed a contract. We should keep ZARATE, pandev, Rocchi and get rid of the old forwards and buy BERG. 4 quality strikers.

The reason why Lotito ties players down on huge contracts is to increase their market value so that when it comes to selling them, we can fetch a larger price. Unfortunately, the Ledesma and Pandev situation has not worked because Claudio didn't extend their contract early enough.

We're looking for a playmaker now it seems. My guess is either the Matuzalem deal is unlikely to happen or Ledesma is close to leaving. Simplicio would be the perfect acquisition in my opinion; experienced, knows Serie A and is also one of the top assist makers in the league.

If our transfer budget is 26 million, then we've 4 million left. Worrying.

Why do we have an interest in a joke player like Coloccini who would cost money and be on a huge wage at Newcastle? If we don't have money to spend then Onyewu for FREE and Lugano (if he is as good as people reckon) for FREE would be the ideal solutions. That young Cagliari defender would be good too, maybe as a 50% purchase with a couple of our useless guys thrown in. I see Maki and co. being sent out on loans in January as nobody will buy them outright. It's a case of running down their long contracts... It is hard to put them in the shop window when they have either not played or been unquestionably bad for a while, teams aren't as keen on wasting money as they were!
If Pandev stays then great, I agree with conceicao14. He would be stupid to go to Napoli or similar just to get away, he has only said about leaving to go to a bigger club and improve himself- Napoli would be a step down, at least he won something here and is in Europa next year. Zamparini at Palermo has even suggested a cheeky swap with Simplicio, tongue in cheek I should imagine! I'm not hugely fussed with Simplicio, he has had good seasons and bad, usually for a whole season at a time - if he started well then I'd be happy, otherwise we may have a problem. Matuzalem deal and Ledesma decide if we need him or not anyway.

Zamparani has said he would love to see pandev at Palermo.

Palermo close to pastore, while were after Simplicio No

Kinda wish they would keep him and we could take Pastore.

Simplicio will soon turn 30, we were very close to him 3 seasons ago, why on earth are we back in for him now? I don't get it.

this mercato start to be more interesting than i thought, the good sides-we have a complete deal with mauro, foggia until 2013,bizzari,new coach, now i just hope that we can finish matuzalem deal, and get some money of selling ledesma.just to see that players like manfre, beleri, inzaghi, makinwa & co are selling(to get some money),some interesting rumors(unleast we are part of this):simplicio, banega, lugano(if complet these a very strong first 11),also that guy elisue(cheap-why not),ederson(hard to belive),collocini(joke player-but not so funny as sivigla-diakite,better than cribari),yes we didnt sell nobody(ballardini will chose some players-who to stay-it will be interesting what he will do(or what possition he will give-if he wants to keep him)with mauri, lottito wait to sell someone and to see what step will be next(ledesma or pandev)i dont see that he will get some good money of some another player(tare declare the pandev price),i hope saragoza will take carrizo-and that will help us to complete matuzalem, nedved returning(with the place in team after retairing of football)it s a nice move-to have some big name(as director or manager-our another mercatos will have more seams(with respect for tare and sabatini),agree with all of you who are woried-but one step(we have a lot of to do-if somebody plays cheese will understand me better)can change a lot of things-lets hope that will be for good

Palermo are interested in Pandev. Zamparini has stated he would love to see him play for his club and knows of Lazio's interest in Simplicio so would like to negotiate.

I doubt Goran would want to join the Rosanero but for an exchange involving cash and a player like Kjaer, Cavani or Simplicio, I would be very tempted. Twisted Evil

Now Lugano seems to be a target for Lotito, who has approached his agent about a possible transfer. Free signings is what Lotito likes best, so this is a dream deal...

On Monday we will know what will happen with Carrizo and Matuzalem, at least if they are to be a part of some loan deal between Lazio and Zaragoza.

A new name has emerged for our midfield, the Brazilian regista Elias Mendes. He is 24 years old and plays for Corinthians in Brazil.

We are still semi-linked with Simplicio, and I guess he could re-join Ballardini if he and Palermo would part. But according to Zampa, things are not that complicated between the two...

Two other names are also mentioned, no idea of the value of these two...but stll..Guarente and Padoin, both from Atalanta I believe...

It´s only 1 o'clock. Lets wait a few hours and we will probably be linked with a few more names...

Lugano on a free would be a great piece of buisness for sure. Ideally another CB but i would be happy with our back four, with the addition of Lugano.

We could play 4-3-3.

Eliseu - Zarate - Foggia?

Kinda like Barca, But personally i would prefer to see a strike partner for zarate.
